Grey Blending : "You no longer have to please others, but you have to please yourself"

2 minsBerrit Arnold's career began on the ARD series "Marinenhof" – back then with red hair. She dyed her hair as a teenager. Now the actress has decided to take a bold step: her hair is going naturally gray for the first time. She now speaks openly about her motivations, who her role models were, and how she sees herself in the mirror now.
Actress Berrit Arnold has been devoting herself to a new role since 2020. The 54-year-old appears daily on German television screens as Daniela Bremer in the RTL series "Alles was zählt." A makeover without consulting the production team? Not possible for her. But it was here on her own set that she found inspiration – and dared to attempt a very special makeover.
Gray hair: still a man's thingFor many women, the first gray hair is the signal to start dyeing. It was also a long-standing part of Berrit Arnold's life. She has always dyed her hair, the actress reveals. When her hair turned gray in her mid-30s, it was a no-brainer to stop dyeing. The ideal image of women had a significant influence:
Because it's so normal for men to get gray hair—and that's completely okay. But as a woman, especially if you're in the public eye, you don't really even think about dyeing it gray.
Men in her circle also reacted cautiously. Berrit Arnold believes this isn't meant negatively—it's due to a lack of imagination about what it might look like. She had to build up the courage to wear her hair in its natural gray over the years. Fifteen years ago, it would have been difficult in society at the time, Berrit Arnold reveals.

She found inspiration and courage on the set of "Alles was zählt" (Everything Was Counts). Her production manager initially let her gray hair grow out and, after a gray-blending, came to work with completely gray hair. That's when she realized: "Wow, I want that too!" Through her producer, she found support in the editorial department for her project. Nevertheless, doubts crept into her mind:

And the closer the deadline came, the worse it became. The more serious the doubts became .
Even in the hairdresser's chair, the excitement was as intense as at one of her premieres. There were repeated moments when she felt she wasn't ready for gray hair. But Berrit Arnold didn't let the concerns get to her. How did the "Alles was zählt" actress manage it? It's the natural maturation process that we go through as human beings, she says.
You no longer have to please others, you have to please yourself.
As she's gotten older, the actress has developed a calming serenity. Women are more confident than they were allowed or able to before, says Berrit Arnold.

When the 54-year-old looks in the mirror now, she says, she can't remember what it looked like before. Her new look suits her so well. Even before her makeover, Berrit Arnold liked to dress in blue, purple, and white—colors that, thanks to her gray hair, perfectly match her color type. She brings her clothes to life in a new way, Arnold enthuses.
Grey Blending: How to properly highlight grey hairCelebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, 60, are embracing this color trend to showcase their naturally gray hair. Instead of hiding the gray hair under color, this method incorporates silver strands into the color. This is achieved through subtle highlights or darker strands that subtly break up the gray roots and create a flowing color gradient. This way, as the color grows out, there are no harsh edges, and a touch-up is only necessary after eight to 12 weeks.
